Charging Function in CUPS

 $ In mobile networks, the Charging Function plays a crucial role in revenue assurance and service monetization.

In 4G,
Online Charging (OCS) via Gy interface >>>real time charging >>mainly for prepaid user
Offline Charging (CG) via Ga interface >>>non real time charging >>>CDRs (call details record) generate
In 5G SA, converged charging will use (CHF), via Nchf >>both online & offline.

🍎How offline charging works?
UE Browse internet
SGWU/PGW-U record data traffic used
SGWU/PGW-U sends data usage to SGWC/PGWC over N4 Interface
SGW generate SGW-CDR
PGW generate PGW-CDR
SGWC/PGW-C send CDR to CG
CG process CDR and send to BS
What difference between SGW and PGW CDRs?

SGW- CDR used mainly for roaming
PGW-CDR used for local, providing details usage records (RG + volume)
